Up to 2014, there were two major funding projects within the VRP programme:
A major focus through the ERDF project was to improve and promote the natural environment and heritage infrastructure in the valleys for tourism and communities in addition to specific projects focused on addressing fly-tipping, boosting community tourism, and promoting and marketing the valleys.
This trans-European Interreg project primarily sought to understand how the natural environment using an Ecosystems Goods and Services approach can help support sustainable socio-economic development through increased business opportunities and enhanced community engagement and enterprise, especially in post-industrial areas such as the Valleys.
In addition, the VRP programme supported a successful KESS studentship with Cardiff Metropolitan University to study the physiological and psychological effects of ‘green exercise’ in the natural environment.
