PROJECT OVERVIEW

Pen-y-fan Pond is one of the last remaining canal feeder reservoirs in Wales. A popular family destination, it offers open spaces to picnic, fly kites and take easy rambles. Experienced walkers can use the park as a base to explore the beautiful and historic countryside around Manmoel.

The works provided a range of projects associated with the improvement of access, landscaping and environment maintenance of the park.

The project implemented a fully accessible access path around the area designed to fulfil the recommendations of a previous access study and visitor surveys to increase recreation opportunities including organised fishing, education (alien invasion trail), and health purposes (GP referral scheme). The path to the north of the pond was upgraded to complement the works that have occurred on the dam wall of the reservoir. The works have also provided an additional connecting path between the main pond path and the main car park and café, offering alternative seating and picnicking areas. The main car park was also upgraded providing a more attractive entrance to visitors through quality landscaping.
