At the western extremities of the Valleys, Kidwelly Quay abuts the Gwendraeth estuary. The area is very rich in bird life including waders, ducks and grebes on the upper part of the estuary, which can be viewed from the quay.
Based on feasibility study, Kidwelly Quay is seen as a ‘hidden gem’.
The project delivered in two phases delivered improved accessibility, land management to create potential wildlife-based tourism to draw in an estimated 30,000 visitors. The improvements have included landscaping, better car parking, improved access, and low impact shelters coupled with interpretation improvements.
It has linked well with interpretation improvements in the town and the Kidwelly Industrial Museum.
