The Valleys Regional Park
Parc Rhanbarthol y Cymoedd
Cwmcarn Forest has become a haven for people and wildlife since the Forestry Commission started afforesting the area in 1922. Hugely popular, it is home to world-class mountain bike trails and a forest drive as well as spectacular walks.
The project improved access provision to the visitor centre from a car park that is separated by a small valley in order to increase visits to the centre and so enhance its sustainability. In addition the project created and improved various trails with associated environmental improvements, and provision of visitor facilities. Doubled capacity of landscaped car park to generate significant additional revenue for reinvestment. New pre-fabricated steel building on the car park, timber clad to match the environment to provide cycle sales, hire and repair, outdoor equipment sales, small vending/take away operation, showers, changing and toilets for cyclists/walkers and a full compliant DDA wet room for use for site users with disabilities.
